Short Story: Nothing But Trouble

To: terry@buckingham.org
Dear Terry…
What are you doing right now? Hmm I hope reading my E-mail from your blackberry. Sorry can’t visit you. Bandung – Banda Aceh still far away, right? No bucks enough. You know the wage of clerk here in Indonesia don’t you? Anyway, why do you spend your holiday in Indonesia by sleeping at the hospital? Isn’t there any cozy hotel in Bandung? (Kidding…)
Terry… I’ve heard what had happened to you yesterday night. Did you really drink that ‘thing’? I’m shocked. Because couple weeks ago, by voip1 You told me how pleased you were because you just got the man that you’ve been waiting for. I saw your face expression from the monitor. Wow, there were stars on your eyes and sugar on your smile. “Ima… he’s the one, he’s my hero, my sweetheart, my soulmate,” You said excitedly. Then whispered, “He told me that he loves me.” And I only said: I’m happy for you. No, not because I was jealous of your fortune. Of your face which is beautifully unique (A combination of Sundanese from your mother and British from your father). But Friend, deep down inside2, actually I wanted to say something on that day. It was: Be prepared for the worst.

Life is fragile, my dearest pal…

You know about Fate and Destiny, don’t you? Do you notice that sometimes they walk to the north; sometimes they fly to the south? Sometimes waiting for changes will make you extremely tired. But sometimes when changes come, they will shock you to the bone3.
Do you realize that we live in high risk more often than in settled? Do you think your life would be safe from sorrow and sadness if only he came back and proposed4 you then you get married?
Ok, maybe you feel happy in wedding day and several years later. But after that, you and him (your husband) will wait for a baby, right? What if you can’t get pregnant? It would be a disaster for your married, wouldn’t it?
Suppose you get pregnant. You’re glad. But… only for a while. Why? Because soon, you will deal with5 another risks. The unpleasant and uncomfortable days along the pregnancy, for instance; Feeling sick in your stomach, problem with your sleep, emotions, eating habit, etc, etc.
Then, when time to deliver the baby comes, you will get another worry. Would my life and my baby be safe? Would my baby born in normal condition? Or maybe it would be deaf, mute, or even has no senses at all?
Assume that you finally delivered a healthy adorable baby girl safely. That’s it? That’s all? No other risk?

No, my cute little buddy…

It ain’t over till it’s over6. You will feel a thousand anxieties. You will cope with a bunch of problems about your daughter, how you fulfill her needs, her education, her friends and behaviors, and so on. Problems about your people surrounding, perhaps about your mother in-law, your family’s husband, your neighbors etc. etc.
Well…Maybe after knowing all that you’d say: Fiuhhh… Life is nothing but trouble. But we have no choice, babe... We should go on.
That’s why we need God, Allah SWT. If you believe in God you must trust Him completely. Those problems are nil if we hold on to Him.
Have you ever wondering how I could carry on when I lost my mother, father, and my only sister in a roll7 in the tsunami and the earthquake five years year ago? On that horrible day I once thought that I would rather die than continue my life without them… I was pal… but Alhamdulillah, God said: If there are difficulties there must be easiness8. It’s not an easy life I live, though, I do still9 (and always) remember my parents, sisters, and my childhood at Meulaboh but I am grateful for what I have right now. I finally lied on10 Banda Aceh, hired as an employee at a cyber shop. A small one but fortunately I can OL11 anytime I want.
My dearest pal, you, should go on and always remember our prophet,
Rasulullah SAW said: “How lucky people who have faith in their heart; If they are blessed with happiness, they would be grateful. If they are assessed with problems, they would be patient”. And do not think about him again, OK? Don’t think about something that you can’t do anything about it. After all you’re only seventeen years old, girl! There’s so many thing in this world to do. So, wake up honey, stand up!
(By the way, when did you change your favorite drink? If I’m not mistaken, your favorite drink is Es Goyobot12 not Baygon, right? Kidding J… )

Ok, that’s all from me. Be tough and get well soon, sweetie…

Your Most Gorgeous friend ^_^
